Lackey On Thursday (November 6, 1969) the line on the bottom of the #3 Aroclor till receiver failed which resulted in the loss of approximately 1,500 gallons of Aroclor 1242 to the acid sewer. To date, we have only been able to recover approximately 350 gallons of this material. The remainder of the material is probably lying in the sewer and has been mixed with the dirt and sand at the head of the acid neutralization pit. Small quantities of this material can be seen leaking through the limestone at the effluent end of the limestone pit. It appears highly unlikely that we will be able to recover any more of this material. However, we will attempt to pump some more of this material to drums. I have checked Snow Creek on two occasions since the spill and can find no two phase flow in the stream itself. I collected two samples from Snow Creek at points which were sampled when our last set of samples were col lected and these samples will be sent to Organic Research in St. Louis to be analyzed for P.C.B. I would recommend that the plant begin to look into installing a catch basin or some other device (located between the Aroclor department and the acid neutralization pit) which would prevent a recurrence of this type incident. I would also like to express appreciation to the Organic Production Group and the Maintenance Department for the prompt action which they took in trying to minimize losses of this material to Snow Creek.
