Petty officer Mackey accepted the report. I told him that at 3:00 a.m. on July 31, 1981 a gasket had failed on a vinyl chloride compressor at Conoco Chemicals Company plant here in Aberdeen. The amount of vinyl chloride released was estimated to be 7.4 pounds. There was no danger to life or property. The material dissipated into the air. He asked if other agencies had been notified and I told him no. He asked if any of the release got into water and I told him no. The VCM dissipated into the air.
