Jaquays, President Jaquays Mining Corporation 1219 South 19th Avenue Phoenix, Arizona 85009 Dear Mr. Jaquays: Thank you for your letter providing this office with additional information concerning asbestos in air, drinking water, beverages and food. I am advised that the Arizona Department of Health Services agrees with you that; no. health risk from ingestion of asbestos has been demonstrated. Con sequently, the Department does not restrict the use of asbestos pipe in water distribution systems. ~ While staff of the Department of Health Services (DHS) appreciates the effort that went into the Gerhardt and Wood tapes, they do not believe that they constitute a valid scientific refutation of the mass of evidence that indicates that airborne chrysotile asbestos can be carcinogenic. The findings continue to reinforce the wisdom of public health policy that seeks to limit exposure to all types of airborne asbestos. The staff of DHS will continue to maintain a position that limits exposure to airborne asbestos. To do otherwise would be imprudent.
