STEAM TURBINES FOR MECHANICAL DRIVE: G-E steam turbines for mechan ical drive are built to operate circulating, boiler feed and other centrifugal pumps, also fans, blowers, and compressors. Im pulse type; single and multi stage; built for condensing or non-condensing operation, for either direction of rotation. They may be adapted for steam pres sures from 80 to 400 lb., for either dry or superheated steam, vacsteam Turbine for Mechanical Drive uum of 25 to 29 in., back pres sures from atmosphere to 125 lb. and for speeds from 1200 to 5000 r.p.m. Lower speeds are obtained by using reduction gears. Bulletin GEA-1145, Gears GEA-1201. SYNCHRONOUS CONVERTERS: Sizes, 100 to 4000 kw., for 125, 250,275, 600,1200 and 1500 volts direct-current, 25 and 60 cycles. . G-E synchronous converters are especially suitable for electric railways and industrial plants where minute adjustment of the d-c. voltage is not required. For low voltage industrial and electrolytic work, the regulating pole or booster type synchronous converter is recommended. By means of the booster, the d-c. voltage can be varied 15% to 20% in either direction from the average. G-E STEAM TURBINE GENERATORS: G-E turbines are built in sizes from 10 kw. upward with d-c. SYNCHRONOUS MOTOR-GENERATORS: or a-c. generators. The turbine generator sets are designed for continuous operation under varying conditions of load. - G-E turbines are distinguished by low cost of operation and re liability of service. They can be arranged for condensing or non condensing operation, and for extraction of steam at intermediate pressures. The exhaust or extracted steam is free from oil and may be used to advantage for heating boiler feed water, for heating buildings, or for manufacturing processes.
