Bettoli, GAF Corporation The following man represented the Asbestos Information Association of North America, 22 East 40th Street, New York 10016, (202) 661-8206, and also discussed roofing compounds but not as effectively as Bettoli: Frank H. Zimmerman, National Gypsum Compary The Department of Labor regulation 29CFR (1910), dated June 2, 1972, is the current law on asbestos. It limits the amount of airborne dust which may be emitted in product manufacture and use, requires the use of respirators and special clothing under certain circumstances, encourages the use of wet methods, prescribes housekeeping and waste disposal practices, and makes certain exceptions where the asbestos is modified by a binder, etc. The EPA feels the Department of Labor regulations do not go far enough and is about to promulgate ones of its own. It is my understanding they will be reasonable about asbestos in roofing coatings.
