Sholl: I send jou herewith the analytical r e s u ^ ^ o i ^ t h e u r i n e and the two specimens o.f blood of your p a t i e n t I n Dr. Kehos's absence I would like to express an opinion as to the meaning of these concentrations. If this man was continuing to work during the period of sampling, the samples indicate that he is exposed to lead. Presumably this exposure is occupational. It is uncommon for men with this degree of exposure to have signs or symptoms of lead poisoning. Occasionally, however, they may- have a moderate anemia and 3tippling, and frequently there is a lead line. Sometimes some weight loss and abdominal cramping occurs, but this is certainly not the general rule. I think you would be well advised to do careful clinical examina tions on all the men who have a similar exposure at monthly Intervals. This examination should Include at least questions in regard to pertinent clinical symptomatology and a determination of the body weight and hemoglobin. If the men have any symptomatology, a red count and stippling may also be done and specimens sent for analysis of the concentration of lead in the blood and urine. In addition, a representative number of the group might have the concentrations of lead determined quarterly and semi-annually. If these are high and the clinical symptoms suggest that the lead exposure may be contributing to the health of the men, then a survey should be made of the atmospheric conditions under which they work so that the cause of the lead exposure may be eliminated at its source.
