Hansen (JBH), Director General of Fertiliser Europe requested a meeting to Camilla Bursi (CB) on Green Deal - Farm to Fork, with a letter outlining the key issue regarding nutrients in the context of the European Green Deal initiatives. During the meeting JBH underlined that fertilizers in themselves are not a problem, but that it is the losses from excess use, in practise often manure, that are a problem because such losses give rise to environmental problems. JBH was concerned that the first drafts of the Farm to Fork Strategy talked about limiting fertilizer use, as this was not focusing on the real problem. He suggested to build a policy around increases in nutrient use efficiency, which will reduce losses and which is an approach backed by scientist. CB listened to the concerns of JBH and presented the latest approach being considered by the Commission to tackle nutrient losses in the Farm to Fork Strategy.
