asked the editor of Tor Cbu o c l k w to mske the Progress Number an annual feature of our magazine, as I base al
ways felt that there is nothing more encouraging and
stimulating than to see the resalts of succesiful work.
These magnificent remits which are shown on the fol
lowing pages, and which have been accomplished in the
short space of twelve months, are ouri; and when I say
ours, I mean atl of us, from the humblest worker in the factory to the
president himself. We have all contributed; and I hope all will take
satisfaction, pleasure and pride in contemplating them. They are presented
hero for this sole pnrpose.
The Illustrations represent a great deal of money, but what ia much
man interesting, they represent the intelligent, .conscientious, faithful work
of a united, loyal staff.
We are perhaps over-fond of showing JUusfcrationa of our plants, eqnip-
*. our unrivaled, world-wide facilities, and I often feel that after
a|;|lwy indicate very little excepting our rise. They are, in fact, but the
Mjiee-woik of our organization. If one would see and understand our
lMtineaa and the reason of our progress, he most enter the build ings and
meet face to face the busy men and women at the machines, in the ware
houses, in the offices, at the desks. Here and only here will be found the
reel basis of dpr organisation and progress the living, breathing force--
the great huUan element, without which buildings, machinery and equip
ment count for nothing.
The interesting part of business ia #/tbs buildings, nor the madpaery,
Mr offices not even the product. These are only the things we work
with. The important thing, the vital thing, is the workers; end therefore
I felt as I looked over the proofs foe this apadal number that It is incom-
fte, because the most important element In our progress is unrepresented, future numbers I hope we may be aide to make up for this shortcoming. When I had fiddled looking over the interesting material that tUs
