Dear B o b :
I am most appreciative of your sharing with me your troubles and agonies over the Gross report. Even after having read about as much on lead in the past eight or ten years as almost anyone in the world, I am of course only a journeyman laborer in the field and don't purport to be able to understand all the scientific subtleties of the subject. Therefore, I can well understand why you could be quite upset with the job Gross has done and yet I still feel that you have not necessarily made a mistake in a l l o w i n g this first step to proceed. I still think it is of some help for this compilation job to have been accomplished and now out of the way.
Above all, I am delighted with the news that you are hard at work on your own book and that you feel you are m a king significant progress. It is obviously terribly important for you to document your work personally and I commend you for your never-ending energy and devotion to duty.
I am sure it goes slower than you w o u l d like but I do hop e you are p a c i n g y o u r s e l f and not o v e r d o i n g it.
I appreciated so much your nice letter and will look forward to progress reports from time to time.
With kindest personal regards, I am
Sincerely yours
