COPPER IN #4 LIFT STATION RXSOP
STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE
rev. 4/91
HIGH COPPER READINGS IN #4 LIFT STATION
CHECK
ACTION STEPS (All Caps)
COMMENTS (Below steps)
Under normal operating conditions the copper content in #4 lift station is always less than one part per million. Because #4 lift station is not design to contain cooper and because we have the potential of getting copper in this system, this procedure will guide you through the steps of identifying the contaminating source and correcting it on timely manner.
If at any time we get a reading of 1 ppm or more the follow ing procedure must be followed to determine the cause and a note is to be written on the laboratory sheet.
_______
1. IS IT RAINING OR HAS IT RAINED AFTER THE LAST GOOD SAMPLE?
Rain can wash catalyst dust into the lift station. Inform WTU operators.
_______
2. CHECK BAT SUMP LEVEL.
BAT sump overflows into #4 lift station. Do not allow trucks to unload at this sump if the level is high.
_______
3. CHECK FOR LEAKS AROUND DH STILL FEED TANKS
The trench West of DH feed tanks goes to #4 lift station.
_______
4. CHECK PUMP PIT DRAINING SYSTEM
If a tanks is being washed in the tank farm area, it could contain copper. If it does, the water pumped out of the pump pit goes to #4 lift station. Check material being pumped for copper. If over 1 ppm copper, inform the lead operator. The transfer of this material is to be stopped. Other means, such as vacuum truck, will be required to finish the task.
