TEXOLJTE Spackling Putty is a finely-ground, smooth-working powder material used for filling small cracks, scars or similar slight imperfections in interior plaster, wood or concrete; also used in covering nail heads ir. gypsum or plywood wallboard. Ad hering firmly to clean surfaces without crumbling, it hardens in a few hours and forms a tough, durable surface. It is frequently used in filling grain in wood and in making furniture repairs. For cracks and mints around bathtubs and similar places where more elasticity or increased resistance to moisture is desired, the addi tion of varnish, linseed oil or paste white lead is recommended. Always over-painted. Coverage: Depends on surface and depth of fills. Drying Time: Dries to touch in two to three hours. Allov. over night drying before painting. Priming: Apply oil primer sealer to new woodwork. Prime metal surfaces with a rust-inhibitive primer. When used between coats of paint, spot-prime dried applications. Completely remove dust, dirt, grease, loose particles, and cracked and scaling paint, using whatever procedures are necessary. Seal new woodwork with an oil primer sealer. Prime metal surfaces with a rust-inhibitive oil primer. Mixing: Use a clean container. Use four ounces of water to one pound of powder. Slowly sift the powder into the water and mix to a stiff putty, free from lumps. Then, add two more . ounces of water to reach the proper consistency for most surfaces.' -. For fine hairline cracks or for filling canvas or wall fabric, the putty will need to be slightly thinner. For wide cracks, larger surface imperfections or surfacing metal, the putty will require less water and a thicker mix will be necessary. The putty is designed to give best results when used at a consistency thick enough to be applied without excessive droppings. For cracks and joints around sinks, bathtubs, plumbing fixtures and other places where more elasticity and water resistance and density are required, Swedish putty mix is used. To make Swedish putty, the powder is first mixed to putty consistency, as stated above, and then ap proximately two tablespoons of paste white lead, spar varnish or linseed oil are added per pound of powder. . TEXOLITE Spackling Putty has a working life, after mixing, of 1 to lj hours. Mix no more at one time than can be applied in one hour. In cold weather, use lukewarm water for easier mixing. Application and Storage: TEXOLITE 5packling Putty' may be applied with a broad knife , work ing the putty' well into the surface. In some instances, particularly in treating canvas and wall fabric at thinner consistencies, it may' be applied with a brush, and, on some jobs, painters have found application through a caulking gun especially' helpful in working around trim, baseboards, etc. When deeper fill6 are necessary apply second treatment after first has dried. If required, repairs made with TEXOLITE Spackling Putty should be sanded smooth when the patch is hard and dry. When used on older painted surface or between paint applications always spot-prime the dried fill with coating similar to that used on adjacent surface to bring repaired surface to uniform condition for the next coat of paint. Store containers in a dry' room and close open containers as nearly airtight as possible. Care of Equipment: Clean mixing vessels and tools thoroughly with water before the putty hardens. .
