Received: 2018-01-19T17:26:05-05:00 Aurelia and Brian: It was terrific to meet both of you yesterday to share more about our mission and programs. The kids on the cover of our Annual Report are in one of those large Voyageur canoes that we talked about yesterday. In addition to the information that Phil sent along, below is a summary of how we are supporting military families. Let us know if you'd like to learn more, or if there are other ways we can support the Secretary's initiatives to engage military families with our public lands, provide more access to our national parks through land acquisition -- as well as impact under-served kids in rural and urban communities. Thank you! Grace NPT is partnering with Blue Star Families to provide Kids to Parks Day events for their military families during the month of May. Kids to Parks Day is Saturday, May 19, 2018 (kidstoparks.org) and these events will be hosted on or around that day. NPT will provide grants for 10 U.S. BSF chapters. The grants will be used by each chapter director to organize a family friendly park event. In addition, NPT will be providing Buddy Bison(s), National Geographic's Buddy Bison books, and Buddy Bison T shirts for the chapters. Each chapter also has the option to borrow one of our life sized Buddy Bison mascots. The ten chapters will be selected in early 2018 by BSF. This partnerships supports the Blue Star Parks initiative. NPT also has a partnership with Department of Defense and 6 Air Force installations to use elements of our Buddy Bison program to encourage kids and families to explore the parks in their communities. Each base will have the option to customize a Buddy Bison Passport template (with "Buddy Stops" featured inside the passport) or a Buddy Bison Bingo Card template. Kids can earn stamps in their passport or on their bingo card by visiting local parks and public lands. Each installation can also feature a photo contest. The children will be awarded prizes for participation including Buddy Bison(s), T shirts and other Buddy Bison "swag". Participating installations include: Peterson/Air Force Academy (CO), F.E. Warren (WY), Hill (UT), Hurlburt (FL), Little Rock (AR), and Moody (GA). A webinar with NPT for all participating bases was hosted on January 11th.
