The Environmental Protection Agency and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommend that mechanics and technicians working around products with the potential for asbestos:
Never use compressed air to blow dust off brakes, clutches or surfacing equipment
Use hand tools instead of power tools, air tools or impact wrenches to reduce air movement
Use state-of-the art asbestos containment equipment o Use wet containment methods only with proper wet method equipment o Use approved dry containment or vacuum enclosure methods o Use only High Efficiency Particulate Air filtration system (vacuum cleaner) to pick up asbestos dust; regular vacuums do not have filters to control the dust and may actually re-float it in the air
Never eat, drink or smoke in areas where asbestos is present
