Nolan Sales Engineer Specialty Products Mead Paper Specialty Paper Division South Lee, Massachusetts U.S.A. gl260 Dear John: This is to reply to your letter dated November 14. I had to discuss your caution labels with Kanai, Plant Manager and Mizumachi, Chief Engineer of Engineering Depart ment before I translate the label into Japanese. We had to come to a following conclusion, We understand that the labels should meet a legal requirement necessary to protect Mead from any possible health liability suits in the United States. We understand your position very well. However, this caution labels, at present, are not required legally in Japan. To use the caution labels representing the danger of asbestos fibers in Japan, as matters now stand, not only makes our entry and transportation problem worse, to no purpose, but also embarrasses the workers in our plant. We strongly ask you not to use the labels for the time being. Please do not attach the labels to the rolls sent to NSK Warner before we get ready to switch to non asbestos friction paper. We would appreciate your thoughtful consideration on this matter. Best regards. Very truly yours Taka Matsumoto Manager Engineering Department NSK Warner K.K. cc: Mr. D.B. Wilkinson, Jr. Mr. E.K.
