Kehoe Dear Dr. Kehoe: : -Tinder date of July 15th, Mr* W. V. Hartmann, Vice President of Gulf Refining, addressed us a letter enclosing copy of a report from their agent, Mr. A. L. Henry at Fairmont, West Virginia, with regard to an alleged case of lead poisoning. This was duly referred to Harry Mack who had one of his men, Mr. W* A. Hewman, investigate the matter, and Newman now reports as follows: T "In reply to your letter of July 21st, wish to advise that M r / of Fairmont, W, Va. contracted his lead poisoning while working as a painter and his doctor, Dr* Paul Tost, has advised him that unless he stays away from Ethyl Gasoline he will be unable to cure him successfully as -the lead j in Ethyl Gasoline seems to agitate the broken blister condition on his arms and faee. On the advice, of Mr* A. L. Henry, representative of Gulf Ref. Go., Fairmont, W. Va. I have interviewed on the subject of national advertising as a leader in order to get his lead poisoning story. The reason for this procedure was that Mr. Henry advised that would not stop at anything if he thought that the Ethyl Gasoline Corporation was interested in his case. After interviewing all parties, it is my advice that one of our doctors get in touch with Dr. Yost for further medical records* . .. ' ` "It has been reported to me by the Elk Refining Co. that their dismissed employee, Frank Tackett of'Logan, W. Va. is making the statement that Dr. Davis has been treating him for lead poisoning which he contracted while cleaning F.lk Ethyl visibles on a hot day. After interviewing Dr. Davis at Logan, W. Va. I find that Dr. Davis did not make such a statement and that Frank Tackett only had a sore throat and a high, fever w h e n he eallad at-Dr* Davis * office for treat ment. The term "lead poisoning" was never discussed or mentioned by Dr. Davis." I doubt if it would be advisable to initiate any contact with Dr. Paul Yost but I do think that you might write Mr. Hartman of Gulf a letter explaining the situation, in order^that their files on this subject might be complete.
