During the conversation the observation was made that since lead chromate has a very low solubility in water (about 6 micrograms per 100 ml. in water at room temperature) it is relatively insoluble and hence justifies the TLV recommendation. However, Dr. Stokinger could not clarify the question of solubility or this compound in alveolar fluid. That datum would be pertinent. He suggested that perhaps you might be of help in clarifying the problem. What are the criteria which validate the recommendation that lead chromate (yellow) is comparatively of much lower toxicity to the iungs than either lead or chromate?
