S. #56U Minimum Roll Weight Requirements Ton have recently requested the Materials Development Laboratory to issue a revision on the above Purchase Specification reflecting a mini mum roll weight. In reviewing this subject with Messrs? Winchester and Johnson, we find a significant problem area. Mr. Winchester has requested a minimum roll weight of not less than 1,500 pounds. This would minimise the number of coil changes on the continuous production equipment thereby maintaining as high a production rate as possible. Mr. Johnson has indicated that he would not accept a Purchase Specification having a minimum roll weight. His reasons are that normal production variations will occasionally yield rolls weighing as little as U00 pounds. He did not feel that he could accept a specification require ment which would preclude possibility of using these rolls. Under the circumstances, we can not see any point to issuing^ revised tentative Purchase Specification until these differences are re solved. ELease let us know what conclusions are reached regarding this proposed revision so that the Specification can amended as quickly as possible.
