McMakin - 2009 ' ..... r,,,r''' July 23, 1987 : EM&TS - - HS&EA Industrial Hygiene Asbestos Exposure Monitoring Attached are the results of asbestos monitoring for two days on insulators at the Institute Plant while removing asbestos from lihes in the tank farm between number two and number three docks on the river bank. Approximately 195 feet of 3-inch steam line was stripped. Glove bags and enclosures were not used because of heat involved in stripping the steam line melting the plastic. Amended water was used to wet the asbestos as soon as it was pulled away from the hot pipe. All personal exposure samples were below the 0.1 fiber/cc action level. Employees should be ammended for the professional manner that was employed in this asbestos removal project. Exposure monitoring may not be needed on a continuous basis if other monitoring levels remain below the action level. Monitoring may not be needed if supplied air respirators in a positive pressure mode are used in asbestos removal projects. We encourage the use of supplied air respirators as much as possible in the asbestos abatement procedures. Employees wore no street clothes, two pair of coveralls, headcovers, boots, gloves and AO R-57-A half-face HEPA cartridge respirators. They showered before lunch and at the end of the workday before leaving the plant. Please inform P. K. Snodgrass, B. J. Agosti, S. R. Erskine and C. B.
