Reason: Not a small business Provided CBI warning to facility The following information was obtained verbally from Mr. Ables and Ms. Willis unless otherwise noted. Process Description: Ottenweller is a construction equipment part manufacturer. Ottenweller makes parts primarily out of mild steel. Mild steel plate is cut using either a laser or plasma cutter and bent or formed prior to assembly. The laser and plasma cutters are each equipped with cartridge dust collectors that vent indoors. The cut metal plates are welded together using robotic welding machines. There are stations where difficult or complicated welding is done by hand. Ottenweller uses primarily MIG welding wire. There are additional stations for automated part machining. Once a part has been constructed, it is cleaned with acetone and prepared for painting, which includes grinding or shot blasting. There are two shot blasters. The plate shot blast machine is controlled by a dust collector that vents to the atmosphere. The other shot blast machine is controlled by a cartridge dust collector that vents indoors. Ottenweller uses urethane-based paints. There are three spray booths with filters to capture paint from entering the exhaust stream. Parts are sent through a drying oven prior to painting. There are five employees who work in the paint booths. Employees track the time and usage of paints in a logbook. After painting, parts a 250F curing oven for 35-45 minutes. The parts are cooled before packaging and storage. Some parts might require additional assembly or fitting with electrical components after painting. TOUR INFORMATION EPA Tour of the Facility: Yes Data Collected and Observations: During the tour of the facility, EPA inspectors observed the robotic welding machines. Some visible emissions were seen rising from the robotic welding machine to the ceiling but not exiting the building. EPA inspectors observed the paint booths with filters present.
