SUBJECT VDC Emissions
As a result of the VDC Emissions Meeting with Dravo hel J In Lake Charles on May 24, 1978, Process Engineering was asked to determine if the Per-Tri heavies still and Per stills vents required processing for VDC emission control and, if so, to develop a schedule to completion for a system to handle the vents.
The Per-Tri vent scrubber currently handles four vent streams as follows:
1. Per-Tri and No. 1 and No. 2 Tri stills 2. No. 1 and No. 2 Per stills 3. Topping still 4. Per-Tri heavies still
On June 5, 1978, gas samples of the vent scrubber exhaust were taken by Laboratory personnel with streams (1) and (3) cut away from the scrubber. The exhaust opening was covered with visqueen to eliminate air dilution. An approximately four-inch aperture was cut in the visqueen to facilitate gas sampling. Before sampling, the vent scrubber was allowed to stabilize for about 30 minutes after the two vent streams had been cut away. Operating conditrons on the still line at the time of sampling were '

Laboratory analyses of the samples taken are attached to this memorandum.
On the basis of the results of the two grab and two fifteen-minute continuous samples taken, it is concluded that the vent streams in question, using our current guideline of 10 ppm VDC maximum allowable, pose no problem and do not require additional processing for VDC emission control.
