;r ' f PACO TEXTURES MEMO TO: John Bacigalupo FROM: Doug Merrill March 4, 1981 SUBJECT: INFORMATION REQUIRED REGARDING THE BLAIR ASBESTOS SUIT With regard to the questions asked by Mr. Stan Pfieffer in his letter to Mr. Harlan Veal, dated February 6, 1981, I have made the following assumptions as to products used in 1976: . 1. "Mud" was^SSllA All Purpose Cement (dry) and/or - 4051A Ready Mix joint Cement and/or 4051N Non-Asbestos * NvReady Mix Joint Cement and/or 4001 Ready Mix Topping. 2. "Texturemix" was 5563 Texture Paint and/or 5565 Splatter Texture and/or 5580 Spray Texture. 3. "Acousticmix,fc was either V-100 (6373G) Non-Asbestos Ceiling Texture or V-100 (6375) Ceiling Texture, or both. . 4. "Quik-Set" is either 5590 Quik-Set Slow or 5591 Quik-Set Fast, or both. I have enclosed samples of containers used for products containing asbestos, except the "Mud". I do not believe samples of these will be available, however, the asbestos caution reads the same for all products. The asbestos caution was placed on the appropriate Paco labels on or about November of 1972. (see attached memo dated November 6, 1972) The initial date of each product formulation and subse quent charges would require investigating batch sheets all the way back to the date of Kelly Moore acquisition of facilities. This research will be attempted but not delay this report. ' -- I have attached formulas for the products in question. The added, asbestos content, by packaged weight, is as follows: 5511A 4051A n4051N 4001 _5563H All Purpose Cement Ready Mix Joint Cement Ready Mix Joint Cement Ready Mix Topping Texture Paint 3202....2601%%%% 4.0% . - KMX 00195 - fV; -w:. The exact "Sate that they first became available in Texas is unknown to me. '* As you know I am trying to build up historical informa tion on our companies use of asbestos for all locations. I will report this to you at a later date. I think the containers I have enclosed should be signed off for, so that they do not get lost. DWM/jlp Attach. (10) Enclos. (7) cc: William E. REQUIREMENTS FOR SUBPARTS G & H AT PACO, SAN CARLOS SUBPART G SUBPART H Occupational Health and Environment Control - Having just completed/the installation of a dust collection system j. we will again monitor our plant for fiber exposure. We are researching better ways to handle the empty talc and asbestos bags. With the talc we plan to go to an enclosed bulk system and eliminate the used bag. We are having all of ourHabels changed to include the asbestos caution whereneeded. We have one area of noise exposure, that being the metal operation. Plans are now to relocate the equipment. We are temporarily using personal protective equipment. Hazardous Materials - No apparent violations. DWM/jlb KMX 00197 5 Product: /4u . 'us tome r:_________. Raw Material .
