Yapp Safety and Security Coordinator Personnel Services Department Subject: 99.59 - Exposure to Asbestos Dust Me have some asbestos exposure at Twin Cities. The old steam lines, hot water lines, heat ducts on top of paint ovens are generally insulated with some type of asbestos. Main exposure exists when repairs are made to these lines and old insulation is cut off. In general, on all new installations and new insulation on repairs, fibre-glass insulation is used. Plant Engineering supervision state that their men very seldom have to do any work with asbestos and employes at that time will wear respirators. We have one utility man in the Maintenance Shop who does odd repair work, and sews aprons and curtains. He uses two to three rolls of woven asbestos cloth per year. These rolls are iiO inches wide and weigh 127 pounds each. From this he makes welding curtains and drop cloths beneath an automatic spot welder machine.
