The object was to compile a basic work of reference for any section within the Group that sight have an interest in the properties of fibres, including applications other than high temperature insulators. The report draws no conclusions - it merely lays out a large number of facts about this important area of technology. It has been impossible to examine all available fibres and therefore representative fibres from each of several key groups have been selected for individual study (see Appendix 2). Parallel to the work reported here, a comprehensive survey of the patent literature relating to fibres has also been made both here and in the U.S.A.
