DESCRIPTION The 3M airhats work by drawing air through the pre-filter at the back of helmet. The air then passes through the main filter and flows down over the face. The pre-filter stops larger particles and protects the fan and motor and lengthens main filter life. The air exits around the temple area. The fan motor is powered by a rechargeable battery that can be worn on the belt supplied. The airhat also provides the protection of a hard hat and a face shield. The airhat provides protection against hazardous as well as nuisance dusts. WHEN TO WEAR The 3M airhat should be worn anytime when charging a formula that contains lead. The airhat should be worn at all times during the charging sequence including charging of fillers, compounds, resins, etc. The DUSTFLO 66 can be used when charging a formula that does not contain any lead. This also includes charging the master batch blender in dry blend. The DUSTFLO 66 provides protection only against nuisance dusts and does not protect against lead exposure. The disposable paper masks can also be used when charging a formula or dry blend master batches that do not contain lead. The protection provided by these masks are similar to the DUSTFLO 66. DAILY CHECKS Each day before use, the airhat should be thoroughly inspected for damage. The helmet, face shield, and face seal should all be checked. You should also check to be sure the filter and pre filter are in place. The airflow should also be checked each day. To check the airflow, turn the helmet upside down and place a flow test plate against the filter cover. Start the airhat by connecting the battery to the airhat cable. Turn the helmet right side up. The flow plate should remain stuck to the filter cover indicating sufficient air flow. If the flow plate falls, replace the pre-filter and filter and repeat the test. If the test plate still falls, notify your supervisor. ABDOO140422 STORAGE AMD CLEAHZHG Each compounder is assigned a 3M airhat. it is the compounder's responsibility to see that this hat is cleaned and maintained. The airhats should be stored betveen uses in the airhat box assigned to you in your work area. The batteries should also be kept on charge between uses. At no time should the airhats be left out of the boxes when not in use. Airhat boxes should be kept clean. Vacuum boxes thoroughly if there is any significant build up of dust. The hat is to be cleaned by taking it to the collection area by the compound supervisor's office on Tuesday or Friday morning before going on long break. The hat can be picked back up when you return to work and will be cleaned and ready to use. If you have mechanical problems with your hat, notify your supervisor or Robert Williams. If you suspect your battery has gone bad your supervisor can give you a new one. More detailed instructions on the care and use of the 3M airhats are contained in the attached booklet.
