RE: Asbestos Ambient Air Samples Collected at Sherwin Plant - March 1999.
During the month ofMarch there were Fifty-two (52) asbestos ambient area samples collected at the Sherwin Plant. The samples were collected and analyzed utilizing the NIOSH 7400 Analytical Method.
Asbestos ambient air samples are collected throughout the Sherwin Plant. Typically they are collected in the clean area adjacent to an asbestos abatement project. The project may be a full enclosure, glovebag, or other approved abatement method. The samples serve as a means to ensure the abatement method was conducted properly. The sample also serves as a means to collect data throughout the Plant and helps demonstrate that levels are well below die Occupational Exposure Limit.
Asbestos abatement jobs vary in the amount oftime in which may be needed for their completion. Sample results may appear elevated due to short run times and low volumes of air that were needed to complete an asbestos abatement job. The short duration of some removal projects effects the minimum detection limit of the analytical method and therefore the concentration may appear elevated. For those short projects the goal is to achieve a less than value "<" for the concentration.
One hundred percent (100%) of the samples that were taken were < 50% of the Reynolds Occupational Exposure Limits (OEL) of 0.1 ffcc. One Hundred (100%) of the samples analyzed were below the detection limits of the NIOSH 7400 Analytical Method. See the attached table for a summary ofthe information.
Note: Samples 14040 & 13915 were occluded or voided. Sample 13900' was sent to a third party laboratory and was analyzed using (TEM) NIOSH 7402.
