I know you all worked very hard to achieve this recognition, and you should be proud of your accomplishment. I have enclosed copies of letters sent to your Congressional delegation and Governor to let them know of the honor your site has received. We will be covering your approval in the Spring Edition of our newsletter, the National News Report. Once published, we will also forward a copy of the edition highlighting your approval to each member of your Congressional delegation and governor. Queeny facility in St. Louis, and the 325 employees of the Springfield Remanufacturing Corporation facility in Springfield. On October 17,1995 the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) approved the Monsanto facility for participation in its Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) as a Star site. On November 21, 1995 OSHA approved the Springfield Remanufacturing facility for participation in the Star Program. As you may recall, the VPP recognize worksites for achieving excellence in their safety and health programs through cooperation among labor, management, and the government. The Star Program is the highest level of recognition in the VPP. There are currently 11 worksites in the State of Missouri that have achieved the honor of VPP approval. The Monsanto facility manufactures industrial organic chemicals. Employees at the facility are represented by the International Chemical Workers Union, Local #16. The OSHA review team reported they were impressed with the effective use of a computerized preventive maintenance program at the facility. OSHA commended the facility for their job safety analyses and safety training requirements. The Springfield Remanufacturing facility is involved in the remanufacture of diesel engines and transmissions. The OSHA review team reported employees at the facility show great motivation for the site to succeed in safety, health, and quality. The team was impressed with the aggressive ergonomics program at the site. OSHA will present a flag and plaque to the employees at the Monsanto J.F. Queeny Plant at a ceremony scheduled for February 16,1996. The employees at the Springfield Remanufacturing facility will receive their flag and plaque at a ceremony scheduled for March 5, 1996.
