A. Kehoe Gentlemen: . Thank you for your letter of April 15th. You will note that my letter of April T^h was addressed to the Kettering Institute of Cincinnati. I was not aware that this was a laboratory of the College of Medicine in the University of Cincinnati. . The tests I requested are made for us by a commercial testing laboratory as a check against our own tests, I required a second outside laboratory and was directed to the Kettering Institute by another institute servicing the paper industry. I erroneously assumed that it was a commercial laboratory familiar with paper problems. . The samples sent to yau do not have a chemical odor or a taste transfer other than the usual paper odor and taste. They do not contain phenol, mercury or other chemical compounds cited by the Food and Drug Administration as prohibitive. The laboratory who presently makes tests for us confirm these points but, of course, do not make any statements as to acceptability by the Food and. Drug Administration. I appreciate the explanation you have given me about your research unit and realize I should have made more careful inquiries before writing and sending samples. Please accept my apologies.
