The Technical Committee is currently considering re-writing this test for ASTM (0-11181. The Fiber Testing Coamlttee Is also looking into the possibility of re-writing this procedure, which is glean in the Test Manual and is essentially the same as the AS1M procedure. At the last seating, the Fiber Testing Committee de cided to run a number of round robin tests to measure the degree of variation that exists between and within laboratories in tests aeasurlr.g the magnetite content of fibers. The Technical Committee agreed that it would be best to await the results of these tests before pro ceeding with further efforts at revising the ASTM procedure. About half of the participants of the round robin hare completed the tests and reported on thea. It is anti cipated that all tests will be completed by the next meeting and that meaningful data from the tests will be available at that tise for a critical evaluation of current methods for measuring magnetite content of fibers. 2. Kr. Christian suggested the need for. Ineluding statements in the Testing Manual that would caution usera on the limitations to be pieced on interpreting results obtained from the tests. He proposed to submit formal suggestions #t the next meeting 3. The Encyclopedia of Industrial Chemical Analysis is soon to publish s section la volume six on tests pertaining to asbestos. Raybestos^inhattan was asked to contribute to this section. It was suggested that any A.T.I. oembtr asked to contribute articles on asbestos testing la this publication in the future might first wish to present their contribution to appropriate committees within the A.T.I. for review. Such s review might produce suggestions that could result in s presentation representative of the views of the asbestos industry. Respectfully submitted, J. Vronski
