This work is currently supported under a interim contract, which will expire after Dec 2003. Following discussions at Asilomar, Dr. Fu has submitted the attached budget proposal. This $230K budget reflects a modest increase over the original 2001 $193K proposal (due to changes following SRP recommendations), but is significantly less than the earlier revised budget ($661 K) which we received earlier. The Fudan budget will become an attachment to Otto Wong's "Case Control" proposal; Otto has reviewed and endorsed this latest version, which looks quite reasonable to me as well. After coming back to Shanghai, I discussed our estimated expenses of the case control study with Dr. Otto Wong who was in Shanghai at that time. I made a little changes based on the final estimate expense that you sent to me. One is to add a small sum of fee for some activities of negotiation and communicating for strengthening relationship with directors of hospitals except for the money paid to coordinators in the hospitals. Another one is to add some fee to that of copying and postage as office supply. Because the office supply is not limited to copying and postage but it is difficult to indicate every item, I put them together as sum of office supply. Last one is about the transportation. It should include local and long transportation. Herewith pis find the attachment of the modified estimated expense for your reference.
