This Is a follow up to the bulletin 1 Issued on May 8, 1972 concerning lead In paint stating our official and technical position concerning the Federal Law. Briefly, the lav Is:
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has published regula tions requiring all paint products intended for use in or around the household to be at a lead level not exceeding .31 (1/21) by January 1, 1973. All products with a higher percent age cannot be moved In interstate comerce after that date. One year subsequent, January 1, 1974, It Is proposed that all products must be down to .061 (6/1001) or leas lead content.
Further, It Is our goal to meet the .061 or less lead level in all paint products Intended for use In or around the household by January 1, 1973-- one full year ahead of the proposed compliance date.
Previously, I had stated that most of our products vere at/or below the .51 lead level with only a handful of products above this level. Since that time our full technical resources have been directed to achieving the goal of .061 lead by January 1, 1973.
This will advise you that the major portion of our standard Y-llne products are now at/or below the .061 lead content level. Those few remaining Items to be adjusted, mostly exterior house paints, will be at the .061 lead content level by January 1, 1973,
Several of the Postad, Acrylic Silkscreen and Acrylic Spray colors are In excess of .51; and we have petitioned the FDA for end-use exemption. The balance of the colors in these lines are less than .51 lead and are being reviewed for adjustment to the .061 lead content level.
You will be kept advised on the status of compliance concerning these Items.
The remaining area of compliance with the FDA regulations concerns the regional 186 and 952 form stock authorisation product categories.

Glidden Trade Sales Policy--Lead In Paint
2
October 17, 1972
It will be the responsibility of regional technical, production and sales management to review all active regionally authorized special products to see that they comply with the .06% lead level by January 1, 1973. As these formula revisions are received by the Technical Information Center, new formulas will be issued to minimize duplication where a product is active in more than one region. This review will also serve to re-evaluate the need for regional specials where a standard Y-llne item can adequately fill the requirement.
This information is being disseminated to provide you and our customers with up-to-date information on the status of our policy to fully comply with the FDA laws in the Interest of the health, safety, and welfare of the public.
