March 29, 1989 G. LeFebvre Independence On 28 March 1989, I attended a periodic meeting of the Scientific Advisory Council of the Louisiana Chemical Association. A copy of the agenda is attached. ENSR has completed its review of the literature on cancer mortality in Louisiana and a final report is expected to be distributed to newspapers. State legislators and interested State departments, as well as to LCA members by 10 April 1989. This report will show no evidence for a relationship between chemical industry exposures and cancer mortality with probably a few exceptions of little significance to BFG. The LCA sponsored update of the Louisiana Tumor Registry is progressing well and a report is expected in the first quarter of 1990. A copy of the current status report is attached. The St. Gabriel study on birth defects has been completed and is involved in final editing and peer review by NIH and CDC personnel. Public release is hoped for during the next 30-45 days. Speculation is that this will be a negative report, that is, no excess of birth defects will be demonstrated.
