These samples are said to be derived from- insulating board |
and caskets made from a mixture of Olivine, fiber glass, and
1
newsprint, with 4-7 1 Hcclr.ar. fiber added. Microscope examination
*
) shows fiber glass and a granular material as primary phases, with
[
j smaller fibrous matter in lesser amounts.

X-Ray diffraction of these samples showed only Wollastonite j
(Ca0-Si02) in all cases except that Sample 9 also showed a very
{
faint unidentified pattern, possibly of forsterite. Evidence for
i
the presence of Chrysotilc and Lizardite (components of unaltered llcdman fiber) is not seen, even in the new (unheated) fiber-board.
( Wollastonite is the main component in all samples.
The concentration of Chrysotile and/or Lizardite in these
i samples is too low to permit detection by X-Ray Diffraction in the
presence of the strong Wollastonite. <
