J-M ASBESTOS EBONY AND TRANSITE
STANDARD TRANSITE
Transite is the leading fire-re sistant material which is de
signed for use where dielectric strength is not required. It is composed of as bestos fibre and cement which are combined und e r tremendous
pressure in t o a homog eneous,
dense mass having great strength and unusual
durability. It is light gray in color and weighs approximately 124 lb. per cu. ft.
Transite is adapted for use as a barrier wherever an arc may possibly occur. It is not an electrical
insulator and it cannot be used for the mounting of current carrying parts as can J-M Asbestos Ebony although Transite's resistance to heat, flame and arc is substantially greater.
Transite is utilized for housing many types of electrical apparatus and for building various elec trical appliances. A partial list of these follows:
Barriers between outdoor transformers, enclos ing outside switches and other electrical equip ment; for cable ducts and trays; resistance bases and housings; arc barriers or partitions; arc de flectors for controllers; and electric ovens, etc.
Nominal sheet sizes: % to 2-inch thickness, 36x48, 42x48; 14 to 2-inch thickness, 42x96, 48x48 and 48x96 inches.

ASBESTOS EBONY
J-M Asbestos Ebony is regularly furnished with a fine, smooth surface, lacquered on one side in deep, everlasting black "switchboard" finish.
It is a sheet, ebony-like in appearance, used for switchboards, controller plates, switch bases, bus
bar supports, etc. It is purely a mineral product, composed of asbestos fibre and binding cement, bonded under tremendous pressure, impregnated with a special insulating compound, and capable of enduring severe conditions. Because of its struc ture, it will withstand shock and vibration, is un affected by rapid temperature changes, will not shrink, crack or buckle, and is uniform in texture throughout.
Size sheets: %- and A-inch thickness, 36x48 inches only; 14- to 2-inch thickness, 42x48, 48x48, 42x96 and 48x96 inches; 2V2- to 4-inch thickness,
42x48 and 42x96 inches.
