The p r e li m i n a r y f i n d i n g s on a s b e s to s d u s t were so
good t h a t we j u s t cannot b e l i e v e th e n , and th ey a r e being r e
checked. Of c o u rse , as you know, p re lim in ary r e p o r ts are n o t
w o rth very much e x c e p t as an i n d i c a t i o n , and we w i l l n o t have

f i n a l r e p o r t s from th e Saranac l a b o r a t o r y f o r about two y e a r s ,
as we went i n t o a t h r e e y e a r i n v e s t i g a t i o n . P r a c t i c a l l y a l l
the manufacturers have joined in defraying the expenses of the
investigation.
For your inform ation, I might say the Public Health S e rv ic e o f Worth C a ro lin a has v i s i t e d our C h arlesto n p l a n t several times in the study of health hazards in the asbestos tex tile industry.
I t h i n k when wo g e t through with our S aranac i n v e s t i g a t i o n , we w i l l show t h a t t h i s paper I s c o n s id e r a b ly d i s t o r t e d , a l though he does si;y a t l a s t t h a t when, th e a i r can be k ept down to f i v e m illio n m icrons, th e re i s no danger, and 1 can t e l l you con
f i d e n t i a l l y , bijt am n o t w i l l i n g to make i t p u b l i c , t h a t the a i r
