I I j BASIC SILICATE WHITE LEAD 45X BASIC SILICATE WHITE LEAD 45X is a white pigment intended for use in multiple pigment exterior paints in combination with other pigments in a manner similar to white lead, basic lead sulfate, zinc oxide and leaded zinc. In such applications, it is the most economical, durable, active pigment available to the paint manufacturer. It has the lowest specific gravity of all the active pigments which means that fewer pounds are required for an equivalent amount of pigment particles. For example, 100 pounds of BASIC SILICATE WHITE LEAD 45X is equivalent in volume and in effect to 161 pounds of basic lead sulfate or 169 pounds of basic carbonate white lead. As a result, a combination of BASIC SILICATE WHITE LEAD 45X and lead free zinc oxide costs less than a corresponding leaded zinc oxide. BASIC SILICATE WHITE LEAD 45X may be used to replace the basic lead sulfate content of multiple pigment paints, whether the basic lead sulfate is present as such or in leaded zinc oxide. It may also replace basic lead carbonate in multiple pigment paints. In all cases, it can be handled in the same manner NLI 114310 with comparable results in paint properties and performance characteristics. Its use enables the paint manufacturer to obtain these results more economically. The general characteristics of BASIC SILICATE WHITE LEAD 45X on exposure are similar to those of other lead pigments. It is similar to basic lead sulfate in some properties, such as cleaning, but it compares closely to basic lead carbonate in durability. BASIC SILICATE WHITE LEAD 45X is unique. There is no similar pig ment now on the market. Lead silicate pigments which are simply compositions of lead silicate in pigment form do not possess low specific gravity or the other advantages exhibited by BASIC SILICATE WHITE LEAD 45X.
