Dear Mr. Roraero;
Regarding Dr. Estrin's letter dated June 21st, 1979 to your attention;
Subject: CERA Talc Subcontnittee's response to the Stanford Research Institute's report to NIOSH entitled, "Talc",
On page 3 of that docunent, the CTFA inadvertently emitted the Garments of one of the NIOSH experts and credited the same with another member's report.
The June 21st letter should have read as follows:
Peters, J.M. - NIOSH Expert Reviewer "... Rubino's study contains little reliable environmental information to match tp with the health effects."
Thiessen, J.W. - Agency Reviewer, Dept, of the A m y " Fran an epidemiological perspective ... none of the articles or studies cited established a direct causal relationship between norrasbestifonn talc containing less than 1% quartz and a disease state."
" None of the evidence given demonstrates a reasonable model that shews the old standard as being too high."
" More toodoological data is needed concerning the health effects of relatively pure talc and talc with its associated minerals... as well as epidemiologic studies on occupationally exposed persons. Establishment of a new standard should be contingent on such studies."
We apologi2e for ary inconveniences this mistake may have caused.
Sincerely,
Charles R. Haynps'^'*^ Director of JXSsrretic Chemistry
