DAP is a producer of sealants, caulking compounds, and glazing compounds at several locations throughout the U.S., with their headquarters in Dayton. Asbestos is used as a viscosity control medium in many of their products, but many of them are white and they require a white fiber. Consequently, most of their purchases have been from Carey.
They do buy some 7RF4 at some locations and recently 6D02 was submitted as a possible replacement for Carey 6D01. The color was not satisfactory. It was suggested that they try 7D02 which might have a better color and the lower cost would allow the use of somewhat more titania if necessary. A sample will be submitted and purchasing is interested in establishing a second source even if the formulation cost is more expensive.
They also purchase 7R33 from Carey and the best possible substitute will be submitted to them for evaluation.
DAP has had numerous contacts with J-M on providing a dust free fiber, but nothing concrete has resulted. We explained all of the things J-M has done to try to provide dust free fiber and they were impressed and realized the complexity of the problem.
