Gay, a former member of our laboratory 3taff, 270 cc of "Ethyl" brand of antiknock compound (180 cc TEL) in a sealed liter can, a graduate, a pair of rubber gloves, and a canister gas mask. Mr. Gay is driving an experimental car on a transcontinental trip and will U3e the fluid only if neces sity requires. It is his belief that he will not have to treat more than 60 gallons of gasoline in 10 gallon lots using a maximum concentration of 3 cc TEL per gallon. upon further search I found in our storage house a supply of 'naif-pint tin cons with soldered seams and screw caps. In view of the fact that we are 'willing to entrust concentrated fluid to Mr. Gay, it seems to mo that it would be more practical to furnish him six half-pint cans containing sufficient TEL to treat 10 gallons of gasoline each with the TEL diluted rath iso-octane. This method will permit Mr. Gay to pour the fluid directly into the fill pipe of the car and avoid the use of a graduate which might introduce some hazard. As a consequence of this discovery, we are furnishing Mr. Gay with six cans appropriately boxed, a pair of rubber gloves, and a cap wrench.
