Re:.....Federal OSHA Lead...Standard l, X have attached MSDS's for each of the various product lines mentioned in your letter. In Section II of our MSDS all the potential ingredients are listed including lead compounds if applicable, section X will list each individual product and specify which of the ingredients listed in Section II (percents for lead are given) are found in that particular product. By identifying the products American Airlines uses and locating them in Section X, you can determine the amount of lead compounds In the products, 2 &3, The exposure to lead while the product is used can only be determined by site specific monitoring. Application generally is by use of a siphon-type spray gun. spray gun settings and paint spray viscosity will vary by product. 4, We have a safety video and safety brochure for paint products in general. I have attached a DU Pont safety brochure for your information. In the case of paints containing isocyanates, we recommend the use of a positive pressure supplied air respirator (NIOSH/MSHA TC-T9C). Recommendations for ventilation, protective clothing and eye protection are detailed within Section VIII of the MSDS. 6&7. Du Pont offers a very extensive product line,. There is most certainly a lead free alternative for any of the paint colors used by American Airlines. When ordering paint, lead free paint should be specifically requested, 8. I have supplied you with MSDS'S for all the possible Du Pont products American Airlines might use. Re; Federal OSHA Asbestos Standard 1. The Du Pont products listed contain magnesium silicate or talc. I have attached the appropriate MSDS's with percents: 3OS, 70S, 80S, 100S, 131$, ISIS, 1984S, 1986S and 1120S. 2. In these products there is no component that has the dimensions listed in your letter. 3. There are no compounds in this product which would produce a false positive reading for fibers. & 8. There are ho asbestos or like silicates in any of these products so there would be no expected concentrations of the asbestos or like silicate fibers, 6. Re: Federal OSHA Formaldehyde Standard 1. Attached is the MSDS for the various Du Pont products which contain formaldehyde. I have referred a copy of this letter to Mr. Doug Obal in Teflon to handle the Teflon product. The Refinish products are: 7007S, RKY3965, RKY3964, RKY3966 and VMY1588. 2&4. The exposure to formaldehyde while the product is used can only be determined by site specific monitoring. 3, I am unaware of any recent data with respect to container headspace air concentration. 5. We have no plans to remove formaldehyde from the product 70078, 8. 70C7S is an anti-wrinkling agent used with our Dulux alkyd enamel paints. It is not mandatory that this product be used with Dulux. We do not have a formaldehyde-free alternate to this product. With regards to the TAE clears, Du Pont offers a wide selection of products.
