Monies '' Safety Supervisor ' Louisville Foundry Repair Work on Core Oven & Ductwork "* Following your phone call today 1 talked to Bob Watrous about the repair job on the core oven and potential expo sures to asbestos. He indicated that the following pro cedure will be followed: 1. The work will be done on second shift s o 'that no other employes will be exposed, 2. The insulating material will be wetted down so that dust will be held to a minimum. I under stand that much of it already is' wet because of the water sprayed on the fire. 3. Those doing '.the repair work will wear disposal' overalls and shoe covers. They also will wear respirators. The 3M disposables are approved for dust containing asbestos. 4, All waste plus dirty coveralls will be disposed of in tied plastic bags marked to show they con tain asbestos. 5. Compressed air will not be used to clean th area, . 6. Replacement insulation will be asbestos free. These precautions will be adequate and the only thing I can add is to make sure everything is documented. It would be valuable to have air sampling data obtained while this job is underway, but with conditions as hectic as they are under strike conditions I doubt if air sampling can be done. One final suggestion is to make sure that the employes doing the work receive a physical examination, as required by the standard. This can be done sometime after things are back to normal. yf E, L.
