Automotive The transfer of the research chemist from Joliet to South Bound Brook is expected to make possible concentration of effort in the area of long range product development, including especially pre formed membranes for floor and dash assemblies. B. Insulation __ 1. The phasing out of the Research Laboratory at Gloucester will terminate major research activity on Calsilite. An attempt will be made to pursue certain cost reduction and process improvement projects through the Quality control organization at Gloucester. 2. Preliminary laboratory formulations have been developed, pro ducing an inorganic sodium silicate foam insulation. Exploration of formulation variables to improve water resistance and strength will continue. An investigation of microwave curing ovens will also continue. Hopefully, formulation will advance so that test installations, eg, roo^, can proceed. C. Felts and Specialty Papers 1. Conversion to TCD latex in Erie's asbestos flooring felt should be completed early in 1970 and is expected to require a con tinuing research involvement throughout 1970. 2. Asbestos felt and millboard applications in a variety of industrial building uses ,__including gasketing^--will-continue tobe investigated and developed during 1970.
