Lining - Wear
Summary data of dyno and vehicle studies was presented by
B. Rankin and L. Shively (attached) showing
erratic
inboard to outboard wear imbalance. Some question pertaining
. to data interpretation was discussed; Kelsey-Hayes representatives
to clarify with Ray Vigna and request raw data sheets from him
( '
if they desire. L. Shively to investigate if any of the calipers
from the various A.E.C. test cars might still be available; K-H
requesting these for evaluation of rollback characteristics,
piston/seal/boot/bore/bushing/pin condition, etc., as they might
relate to wear.
Caliper Assembly - Bushina Grease
B. Rankin indicated it is too late, weatherwise, to evaluate any new submissions of grease from the Rubbers and Lubricants Laboratories. J. Clark still recommending Brake Engineering test production wheel bearing grease (B. Rankin has sample) because of its availability at dealerships and therefore its high probability of being used by mechanics.
Samples of 2-1/2 gram packages of GE G-661 have been received and will be tested for adequacy as a potential remedy to the question of what to use in service shoe and lining rebuild kits.
K-H Engineering still studying GE G-661 in their labs as it relates, to performance, and K-K-Jackson still studying the cost and effect on the automatic bushing fill equipment of G-661 as it relates to. production.
Caliper Assembly - Drag Chirp
Kelsey-Hayes tried a new seal groove shape to improve piston rollback. A pair of aged, special grooved calipers will be supplied to Chrysler for examination. Sketch attached.
Noise f\A'' ' :
Abex 916-23 W/HN-810-4 gasket is running noisy, in Arizona and at Proving Grounds.
High titanium rotors being compared to production rotors using 7018C IME w/o gaskets.
Arizona program w/7018C IME X70 running with mixed results at present.
Additional noise information is found on the attached summary.
K-H Manufacturing has commented on the feasibility of producing
gMj vspring grooved rotors as being very unlikely; see attached report. to &
