Sharp The regular weekly meeting of the 1985 SHAC Committee was called to order by Chairman Jim Gatewood, on Wednesday, January 30 in the Cafeteria Conference Room. HOURLY SAFETY COMMITTEE The HSC pointed out that in practice, slight confusion exists across the plant concerning requirements governing when and for how long work and spark producing tools are stopped in response to an emergency fire and spill alarm. R. Hammann / plans to investigate this allegation. Bob will also determine ^ - how best to respond to the practice of plant supervisory personnel entering closed vessels while entry permit work was being performed without first obtaining a permit specifically for themselves. Bob pointed out that the possibility of an individual being left alone inside a closed vessel is very real as long as this practice exists. DRUG AND ALCOHOL ABUSE PROGRAM R. Sharp and R. Walker plan to meet with representatives of TCR on 1/31/85 to review that Company's Drug and Alcohol Abuse Program. R. Sharp also plans to contact Monsanto's Corporate Law Department to ascertain what potential legal ramifications could stem from a Company sponsored Drug and Alcohol Abuse Program. A survey of other local programs is also planned. HAZARDOUS MATERIAL/PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT MATRIX J. Gatewood asked SHAC members to wrap up their portion of the "Matrix" survey by 2/6/85. Each member should determine how many charts should be posted and where they should be located. The question of whether or not to limit the contents of the charts to cover only the materials handled in the posted area will be resolved at the next meeting. LAM001640 SC OOO443 1ST QUARTER INSPECTION STATUS STATUS - D. Barfoot reported that the inspections were nearing completion. POSITIVE FEEDBACK - Doug commended the team lead by TT! J~. Sanders for conducting a very professional inspection. Unsolicited comments from members of both AN-5 and Oxo/Esters Supervision indicated that the concept of immediate feedback from the inspection team to the unit was appreciated and well received. Requests were made by both departments to incor porate the "immediate feedback concept" into all future inspec tions. Unsolicited comments from Material Handling concerning R. Sharp's team and immediate feedback lent further support to this recommendation. NEGATIVE FEEDBACK - Many complaints were received criticizing the committee for giving "short or no" advance notice of inspec tion team arrival. J. Gatewood has requested that SHAC members conducting future "unannounced" inspections insure that at least a one day notice be given to operating units. This should be sufficient lead time to allow unit supervision to schedule their time to accommodate the team. AWARDS - Plaques will be awarded to the four winners. R. Coleman to make arrangements for award ceremonies and plant news story. R. Sharp will have plaques engraved. 2ND QUARTER SAFETY AND HOUSEKEEPING INSPECTION DATE SET D. Barfoot announced that the next quarterly inspection will be conducted between the dates of April 9-19. Details will be firmed up and announced at a later date. MULTIPLE AWARD CONCEPT At the request of the committee, J. Gatewood will seek G. Tromblee's advice on the concept of granting outstanding awards based solely on performance, with no limit imposed upon the number of outstanding awards granted. SAFETY SLOGAN CONTEST Entries were reviewed and the committee selected the winning slogan for the week - "Make Safety Thrive In 1985". The slogan will be put on the portable signs for one week at the Main and West Gates. The winner will be announced in the plant news. The committee decided to continue the contest and will select weekly winners. D. Barfoot will determine what prizes would be suitable for the winners to receive and report at the next meeting. SHORT TERM SAFETY GOAL Publicizing and displaying the plant's performance in striving to surpass the 8,715,815 man-hour benchmark was discussed. R.
