The plant lighting survey has been completed and request for lighting Improvement will be circulated for approval. b. The correction of the incident to the liquid oxygen in department 4l has been completed. c. A survey of the plant indicated there are only nine switches in the plant of the same design as resulted in the incident in power 3. All of these switches were found to exist in the utilities department, and the switches have been corrected. This type of switch is of an older design and the newer design has been strengthened in an effort to avoid a similar incident. Hr. Wood will diBCuss with En gineering, if this type of switch shall remain as one of the standards for this plant. 2i National Safety Congress Mr. W. C. Puller reported to the Board on the National Safety Congress which was held in mid October. Messrs. Wilcox, Hickey, Ozarchuk and Puller attended this Congress from our plant. Mr. Puller gave the impressions of those attending and commented on the size of the Congress, the worthwhile exhibits and the variation in quality of the meetings presented. 3. Major Safety Projects a. The sub-committee selected to study the Engineering report SC 16683 LAM023952 Plant Manager's Safety Board - Minutes Page 2 on the Nitrogen system have completed their survey. A write up Is being prepared and will be distributed prior to the next meeting so that discussion on the proposal can be held at that meeting. b. The pilot groups on safety training for leadmen and chief operators are developing their programs, and it was reported that the leadmen training would start about December 7, and the chief operator training would begin shortly after the first of the year. Pinal outline of these programs will be made available to the Board. NEW BUSINESS 1. Hourly Safety Committee Mr. R. W. Braden was appointed chairman of the Hourly Safety Committee for the first six months of i960. There were no new recommendations from the Hourly Safety Committee. 2. Plant Housekeeping Inspection Committee The following committee was appointed by the Board to make the semi-annual plant housekeeping Inspection: F. E. Grissom, Chairman; J. W. Barton and Albert Boone. 3. Rescue Breathing It was proposed and approved by the Board that a copy of the film, "Rescue Breathing," be purchased and this film would be shown to all employees In January. As part of our Off-TheJob Safety Program, this film would be shown to the wives and families, and Texas City's Junior high and high school students. 4. Radiological Health Course Mr. Fox reported briefly on his attendance to the Basic Radio logical Health Course held in Cincinnati. 5. Miscellaneous a. Industrial Supervisor magazine, due for resubscription, will be sent to all members of the Board and to as many other supervisors as specified by the superintendents. b. There seems to be a tendency to use the category of "other" and "none" in the minor injury and accident report form when another classification should be used. A report on the Safety Suggestions was made; eight suggestions were received; seventeen closed; ten are delinquent and two are pending. It was noted that this is the lowest number of suggestions received In a long time and was agreed, by the Board, this was an indication that more suggestions were be ing brought to and processed by supervision. d. A revision to Procedure Bulletin P-0112 was distributed for comments to the Board. The comments received prior to Nov ember 20 will be incorporated in the bulletin and the bul letin Issued. CLGslt C.
