Saur.ders I spoke with Jim Bolton and Bob Hammann about the subject P-Bulletin "Area Electrical Classification" in regard to its relative value at this time. We are in agreement that the P-Bulletin is unnecessary. This is because of the existance of (1) Corporate Standard E2.2 Standard 2, which covers the "how to" of area classifications and (2) the project loss prevention reviews which are part of both CED and local project procedures. In view of the above please cancel P-Bulletin P-0413. B. E. Kullerd /js SC 004772 LAM005983 PROCEDURE BULLETIN --TEXAS CITY PLANT P-Q413 AREA ELECTRICAL CLASSIFICATION I. PURPOSE To describe the plant procedure for establishing the elec trical classification of a new or previously unclassified area or revising the existing classification of an area. II. POLICY The Plant Manager's Safety Board approved the use of the API bulletin, RP-500, as the electrical equipment classifi cation standard for this plant with the proviso that areas within three feet of grade inside battery limits of units handling heavier-than-air flammables will automatically be classified Division 1. A copy of RP-500 is available in the Loss Prevention Department Library and at the Engineering Central Files. III. SCOPE Applies to all electrical equipment installations at the Texas City site. IV. PROCEDURE AND RESPONSIBILITY The classification of the plant areas will be the responsi bility of the Plant Design Group of Plant Engineering Ser vices. This classification of units or departments will be made in close consultation with the Area Operating Supervisor and with Process Technology personnel familiar with the area. These persons shall consider the chemical exposure, safety aspects, and the limitations which may be imposed on future revisions and expansions. These classifications, defined on plot plans, shall be approved by the Superintendent of Manufacturing of the area and the Superintendent of Plant Engineering Services. Copies of these plans shall be made available to engineering, operating, maintenance and elec trical supervision; along with adequate instruction in their meaning and application.
