Ms. Beck, Mr.Morris, Ms.Corado and Mr. Parsons,
My friend's son,j E*-6persTM'p"*" <pp>iage 31), a healthy young man, recently died while using a Methylene Chloride-based paint stripper. He carefully''toirdwecfthe manufacturer's directions, using all the protective respirator equipment and skin protections recommended on the label. He bought the Methylene Chloride off of the shelf at his local Lowes store.
I'm very troubled by reports that the EPA has indefinitely postponed its ban on Methylene Chloride. (EPA-HQ-OPPT-20160231-0001). It is banned for use by the US M ilitary and the European Union since 2013.
Protecting American consumers and workers from dangerous chemicals is at the core of your agency's mission. The longer these rules are delayed, the more workers and consumers will be needlessly exposed to toxic chemicals with serious, welldocumented health risks and numerous deaths resulting from your delay.
Action on this toxic chemical is long overdue. I urge the EPA to reconsider its decision to delay the rule making process. You should finalize the proposed ban on Methylene Chloride immediately.
Thank you, Regards,
Roy Rathbun
