If these are written into the proper blank spaces in the former report, you will have complete picture as we have obtained It. the The results on the men are not essentially different from those which we reported formerly, and by reference to my earlier letter, the Interpretation in terms of our other data will become comparatively clear. The results on the filter pads substantiate what is already clear from the other evidence, namely, that there is significant but somewhat spotty and Irregular exposure to lead in the two plants in which these men work; moreover, the masks are rather more effective in filtering out the dust particles and in protecting the men thah I would have anticipated. It Is perfectly clear from the results on the filter pads that the amounts of lead to be found in the air are rather small, and that fairly large samples of air will be required to give accurate results with your testing apparatus. On the other hand, if you will take the figures on the pads as representing the amounts of lead which would be breathed In in the absence of masks, then it will be apparent that the conditions in the plant are such that eases of poisoning would be expected to develop unless tbe masks are uniformly effective. .... There are other details on the data which I shall be glad to talk with you about when you have an opportunity, and I sincerely hope that you will carry out your Intention to come to Cincinnati in the near future, and in coming in to see me.
