Air was drawn through the tuoes b^ Du Font Model P-200 pumps calibrated at about 60 raL/min. Tienax^-GC tubes were thermally desorbed at 200C using an EnvirochemiUnacon Series 010 Thermal Derorber at Seaford. The carrier gas was nitrogen. Samples were analyzed on a Hewlett-Packard Series i840 gas chroma tog^-aph equipped with a flame ionization detector and a 3.28' x 1/8" stainless steel column packed with 15% Igepal C0880 and 51k potassium hydroxide on Chromosorb W. Two samples were analyzed at Jackson Laboratory using ion selective chromaltography to determine total fluoride. Samples were collecteld at the following locations around spinning machine 370T: ' On the spinning malchine operators (personnel samples). i . a On top of the primjary finish control panel at position 22. Because of it|s proximity with the hot chest, this was considered a source sample. rAoplplreorx.imately five!| inches r6m the primary applicator On the spinning machine operators' I-beam work station, in the breathing zjone. All other|area concentratiens were equal to or less than 10 rag/m . Personnel samples ranged from nondetectabiIe to 0.5 mg/m-. The lower limit of detectiori'was 0.1 /ig All concentrations were le^s than those measured during a " hot chest open, of at^BBB^ Seaford's analytical method may overeat imate(H|jollected because the flame ionissation detector can measure other finish components that come ,ofij the qas chromatooraph column in the same detection window asf Kesear Section.
