Elilers of Austin, The importance of better industrial health for the Gulf Coast will be the theme for the second annual Gulf Coast Regional Conference on Industrial Health on October 6 and 7 in Houston's Rice Hotel. An in dustrial waste symposium, believed to be the first of its kind on the Gulf Coast, has been scheduled for the second day of the conference. Many of the nation's leading industrial health authorities are listed on the speak ers' program. These include Dr. James H. Sterner of Rochester, N. Y., a representa tive of the Atomic Energy Commission, who will b$ the keynote speaker on October 6. Dr. Sterner, of the Eastman Kodak Co., will discuss "Industrial Health in an Atomic Era." Other health conference speakers will be Manfred Bowdich of. New York City, director of health and safety,JLead Indus tries Association; Dr. Allen J. Fleming of Wilmington, Dela., assistant medical di rector of the E. I. duPont de Nemours and Company; Allen D. Brandt, D.S.C., industrial hygiene engineer, Bethlehem Steel Company, Bethlehem, Pa.; Dr. Sher man S. Pinto of Denver, Colo., American Smelting and Refining Company; F. Ruth'' Kahl of Washington, U. S. Public Health-^ Service; Dr. D. D. Irish of Midland, Mich., Dow Chemical Company; George D. Clay director of the State Health Department's bureau of sanitatary engineering and national president of the Federation of Sewage Works Association, delivering the noon keynote address. Other symposium speakers will include Edward J. Cleary of Cincinnati, executive director and chief engineer, Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission; A H. Wietcrs of Washington, chief of field operations branch, division of water pollu tion control, Public Health Service; W. A. Moggio, research engineer, Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge; M. B. Ettingcr, scientist officer of the Public Health Service experimental station in Cincinnati; G. R-, Herzik, Jr., chief engineer, Texas State De partment of Health, Austin, and Burnell Waldrep of Austin, assistant attorney gen eral of Texas. Primarily, the conference has been planned to benefit representatives of the HESTER S. WISE, Inc. medical profession, industrial nurses, safely engineers, public health departments, in surance companies and utility,.sanitary and chemical engineers.
