Treinen On April 1, 1976, Bill Gribble from the Toledo OSHA office, was in to make a follow-up hygiene inspection. The pur pose of this visit was to determine whether we had complied with earlier dust and noise citations. First we met in my office to discuss the particular items in question: dust at Block presses, and noise and dust at the #2439 Block saw. Gribble then met with Jane Miller of the UAW and Rick Mabis of the MESA. We then proceeded to the Block Department. After looking over the area, Gribble decided to take six hour air samples on both operators at the #3 preform press. During the sampling period everything appeared satisfactory until the clean up at the end of the work shift. During clean up a malfunction of the vacuum sweeper occurred which rein troduced a considerable amount of dust into the air. Both operators were immediately instructed to cease using this piece of equipment and hopefully it will not greatly affect the results of the air samples taken. The #3 preform press was the only machine sampled during this visit. After reviewing our OSHA accident forms #100,101, and 102, during the closing conference, Gribble mentioned that he would be in this week to examine the #1, 5 and 6 Block presses for dust, the #2439 saw for dust and noise and to further investigate the progress we have made on reducing airborne asbestos dust in the entire plant.
